How To Do Pushups And Build Beautiful Arms

If you want sexy arms and defined triceps, you need to do pushups, not triceps pushdowns. This will help you get nice arms, and avoid batwings.

You want nice arms, master the pushup.

You want to pass your physical recruitment test for the police academy or military, master the pushup.

You want to push other athletes around on the court or field (within the rules, of course!), master the push-up.

You want to be mobile, athletic, lean, and sexy? Master the advanced pushup variations.

If you can't do a pushup, start with these 3 basic steps. If you can do a bunch and want to take it to the next level, see the 3 advanced steps below.

Beginner 3-step progression for push-ups.

i) Kneeling Pushups
Start with 1 set of 8 if you are a beginner. Add 2 reps each workout for the first week, so that you are at 1 set of 12 after 3 workouts.

In the next week, add 1 set each workout, so that you are at 3 sets of 12 by the end of the week. Then try for 3 sets of 15 the next workout.

The problem with kneeling pushups is that you can only get so strong. Eventually, you'll be able to do 15 kneeling pushups, but you still won't be able to do a full pushup...so onto the Incline Pushup.

ii) Incline Pushups on Smith Machine
Set the smith machine bar at chest height. Stand about 2-3 feet away from the bar. Lean forward and grab the bar with an overhand grip. Keep the balls of your feet on the ground and lower your chest to the bar.

Do 3 sets of 8 repetitions per workout.

Each workout, lower the bar one notch on the Smith Machine until you get to the lowest rung. You're almost at full pushups now!

iii) Push up Holds
But you still might not be able to do more than 1 or 2. So let's get stronger where we are weaker - at the bottom.

From the top of the pushup position, lower your body slowly (for 2 seconds) to the bottom position.

Hold this position for 5 seconds.

Then slowly lower your body all the way to the floor, drop to your knees and then get back up to the full pushup position.

Do 3 sets of 3 repetitions of the 5 second hold.

Add 1 repetition each workout until you are up to 3 sets of 6. By now, you should be able to crank out quite a few pushups.

Advanced Pushups

Here's a progression to build you up to the Spiderman Pushups...

i) Pushups with Your Feet on the Ball

ii) T-Pushups

iii) Spiderman Pushups

These are advanced pushups, and will require photos, video, or personal instruction.

How to Control Cravings

Don't let your cravings destroy your weight loss program. Learn how to stop eating and stick to your diet so you burn fat on your fat loss program.

Cravings can kill a good fat loss program.

One day you're sailing along losing body fat, and the next day you end up eating 1500 calories of M&M's. You get frustrated, you skip your workout, and the next thing you know you've fallen off the wagon for three days or three weeks.

Don't worry, though. I can show you how to stop this behavior, so you don't ever let this happen again. Here's how to control cravings and beat body fat for good!

"Anybody have this experience? I really do want to lose the fat but everytime I walk by a convenience store, my brain wants to get some junk food even after I've worked out!

I do try to resist the temptations but sometimes I do give in and it's wrecking my progress!

How much willpower does a person have to have in this fat loss thing? How can I get rid of these temptations once and for all?"

My answer...

Hi!

This is going to sound too simplistic, but trust me, it will work.

You need to change your self-image.

Right now, you believe you are...

1) The type of person that falls off the wagon everytime you walk by a convenience store.

You must change your self-image and see yourself as...

2) A disciplined eater who eats for fat burning, mental energy, and to fuel your workouts and lifestyle, AND who treats themselves every once in a while to pre-planned treats.

Let me give you an example of how this works...

As I've mentioned before on the site, I used to bite my nails.

Disgusting habit.

But I'm a fitness professional.

And fitness professionals do NOT have disgusting habits.

So I changed my self-image.

In my mind, I became the type of person who does NOT bite their nails.

And now everytime I am tempted to bite my nails, I stop and say to myself, "I do not bite my nails. That's disgusting. I do not have disgusting habits".

It literally worked overnight.

So, it doesn't matter if you walk by the store, go into the store, buy the junk food, or even take the wrapper off, all that matters is that you stop yourself before you eat the junk and say to yourself...

"I am not the type of person that sabotages all their hard work by eating junk food. I have control over my cravings, and I eat only foods that contribute to my fat burning program and to a healthy lifestyle. And every once in a while I allow myself a planned treat as a reward."

That's ALL that matters.

Now, you must truly believe in yourself and in your new self-image.

It will only work if you believe in this mindset shift.

But I already believe in you and know you can do it.

That's it. Good luck. Change your mindset today and start building your new body immediately.

If you are committed to a good training program, than it will be easier to get your mind to commit to a new way of thinking about your diet habits. By getting control of your cravings, you will burn fat and lose weight.

Metabolic Individuality And Weight Loss!

We see many famous people losing oodles of weight and then regaining all the weight very soon.
Many dieters find themselves in this trap of dieting to lose weight, only to have the pounds return and refuse to come off a second time. Why does this happen?

There are several reasons, including diet induced hypothyroidism (low thyroid function,) other diet induced metabolic imbalances, loss of lean tissues as well as metabolic individuality.

It helps to understand the three metabolic body types and the fat metabolism.

Before beginning any sort of dieting program, it is a good idea to consider why a change is desirable. There could be several reasons, such as beauty, health and others. The most unrealistic expectation concerns the appearance. All the models or actresses that we see on TV possess the natural body types of only a small percentage of people - they are not most of us. It is a good idea to find the ideal body weight, which is a healthful and sustainable weight that suits one's own metabolic individuality.

Physiology divides the body types into three general categories: ectomorphs (naturally slender), mesomorphs (large boned and muscular) and endomorphs (put on weight easily.) These body types are inherited.

Since it is not possible to change the body types, it is unrealistic to expect any diet program to change our body type.

Obesity can occur in any of these body types. If obese, realistic goals can be set to lose excess weight by undergoing a program consisting of a good diet along with a proper exercise program. You may not be svelte like that model on the TV, if you don't belong to that body type, but you will be healthy, which is what we should all be looking to achieve.

How To Lose 10 Pounds In 1 Week - Dieters Extreme!

If you are aiming at fast weight loss there is only one way to go. To get rid of excessive fat you will need to do 2 things. 1) You need to go on a proven fat burning diet and 2) Exercise in a way that improves the result of the diet.

Choosing diet isn't that hard. You should pursue a calorie shifting diet that will boost your metabolism into burning fat like never before. During the first cycle of dieting it is quite possible to lose 10 pounds in 7 days. The result of the diet comes from many factors and the more you initially weigh the more you will lose. This is because your insulin levels will stabilize and you will lose some water weight. Shifting calories according to a certain scheme will increase your metabolism and have it going at full speed ahead meaning that it will open up your fat cells and release a lot of the fat.

Choosing exercise program is a bit more difficult. You want to lose weight so if you do too much weight lifting you'll gain muscle and weight. On the contrary, if you do too little weight lifting you will lose muscle mass and we don't want that either.

I found that combining cardio-exercising and weight lifting was a great way. I have a free program over at my site. Look below for link. This program is built to burn fat and it burns fat all day and all night. The program should be done about 2-3 times per week. If money isn't an object you should try Turbulence Training as this is a full program.

Jennifer Olsen was a master of failing at different diets. She understood that there were more to losing weight then just going on a diet. Today she has lost nearly 50 pounds with the calorie-shifting diet and meanwhile she has finished reading 'Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle' and she is implementing what she learned into daily activities.

She made a mini-site that gives examples of diets, complete fast weight loss diets and reviews of books that helped her stop living the unhealthy life and turning around into a more healthy life-style. If you are interested in learning more please Click Here!

3 Weight Loss Mistakes

There are literally tons of information and articles about losing weight. Believe it or not, people still make the same dieting mistakes over and over again. I am not referring to little slip ups. What I am talking about are big mistakes that become real problems in your weight loss attempts. If we can define these mistakes it may make it possible for healthy, permanent weight loss.

The first mistake is the all or nothing attitude. People who approach their dieting in this manner will often select a diet that practically impossible for them to maintain. When they first begin, they remove anything from the kitchen that does not fit in with their new diet. What they are thinking is that they wish to be perfect. They probably will be. Maybe for a day or two, or perhaps ever a couple of weeks. But something always happens. For some reason they are not able to continue with their diet. When this happens the entire process is ruined and the diet is over. So what they do is go to the store and replace all the things that they threw out in the first place.

If this is your approach to dieting then it is necessary to ask yourself some difficult questions. What exactly is the purpose of your diet? Do you want to lose this weight permanently? Perhaps you just wish to lose a few pounds. The secret here is to make lifestyle changes in your diet. This way you create a slow and regular means of losing weight.

The second mistake is the attitude of sacrifice. Many people see their diet as some sort of sacrifice. It is easy to see why. You are not allowing yourself to eat the foods that you enjoy the most while attempting to achieve your target weight. This is what happens. You have done your research. You have come up with well thought out diet that you can do. You can successfully lose that weight and achieve your target weight. Okay! Now what? You have reached your goal. Have you really changed your eating habits? Did you learn to eat those so called bad foods in moderation? Are you likely to end up out of control? Can you broaden your diet in moderation and maintain your target weight?

The third mistake is goal failure. Defining your goals is essential with your weight loss program. Your goals should be crystal clear. They must be realistic. You should write them down. You probably have an ideal weight in mind when you begin. If you are more than a few pounds overweight, this goal is probably too far away to be helpful. A more practical goal is to lose 2 pounds per week for the first several weeks. After that, 1 pound per week. Of course, this will vary from week to week. However, when you track your progress you will observe that you are consistently moving toward your goal.

Do not worry if you have been making any of these mistakes. Just like everything else in life, it important to learn your lesson and to move on. The truth is that we learn more from our failures than we do from our successes. Do not let your mistakes to be an excuse for giving up. Success comes from making a commitment and by being persistent.

Lose 15 Pounds Fast - Can You Believe The Hype

Fast weight loss seems to be the be all and end all for dieters nowadays. No one wants to lose weight slowly over time they want it fast but can that really happen?

No doubt you've seen numerous claims on various websites and book covers that it can but sadly most of those are talking out of their rear ends.

Yes they provide results for a couple of days but only whilst your body gets rid of excess fluids, after that it is all downhill with the vast majority of diets currently available.

The best diets do tend to be those that provide results steadily over time but as I said no one these days seems willing to do that. The good news is you don't have to.

Shifting calorie diets have been shown to bring in great results in terms of fast weight loss but more importantly than that the results show that it works continuously.

As I have said many diets only lose you fluids and then struggle to keep working for you but calorie shifting diets work on getting rid of fat and that is why it works constantly. So what does it do differently to the other methods of dieting available?

It works by tricking your metabolism into working at a high level by rotating and switching the foods you eat on a daily basis ( hence shifting calories ). It works surprisingly well and has an amazing success rate amongst its users.

There are only a couple of shifting calorie based diets available and one does stand out which you can find out about at the link underneath. Other than that you will only lose 15 pounds fast or get any other fast weight loss results through good luck or starving yourself.

If you want to lose weight quickly and safely then the only diet which can achieve this will be a calorie shifting diet to find out more information about diets using this method check out http://shiftingcaloriesdiet.blogspot.com

1 Cardio Trick To Lose Belly Fat - Maximize Your Belly Fat Burn Rate

One of the best ways to lose belly fat is through cardio workouts. Cardio can burn a lot of fat in a relatively short period of time, as long as it's done in the right way to maximize your fat burn rate. The sad thing is, that most people do cardio in a way which doesn't help them to burn the maximum amount of fat and also consumes way too much of their time.

So what is the wrong way to do cardio? Or better yet, what is the 1 cardio trick to lose belly fat fast?

The wrong way to do cardio, which is the more common form you see in gyms, is the long duration, low-medium intensity cardio workouts. You probably know what I mean: people who get up on the treadmill and simply use to it to stroll for an hour, barely picking up their feet. Others may run at a slow pace which may be great for a warm up, but it's not the best way to lose belly fat, not by a long shot.

Not that I blame those people, they've simply been filled with misinformation. They've been led to believe that they need to do long workouts in order to burn any fat at all. Of course you need to do things for a long time if you're doing it at a slow pace like a turtle. Your body barely feels any exertion.

The 1 trick to lose belly fat with cardio involves doing short duration, high intensity, interval cardio workouts. By doing such workouts you get the body to really feel the burden, work your heart through a whole range of beat rates, burn a ton of fat, and do it in less time. The downside is that you need to work hard. If you don't push yourself, you will not be able to burn enough belly fat to make it worthwhile, but if you are prepared to make the effort, you can have a massive cardio workout in 20--25 minutes flat.

So the trick to doing cardio to lose belly fat is to do it a high intensity level which means that you will only be able to keep it up for a short while, and then to lower your intensity level for a while to catch your breath, and push yourself into higher intensity again. If you do this cycle for the entire 20 minutes of workout, believe me, you'll be huffing and puffing, and sweating profusely. What's even better, is that your body will be burning calories a higher rate for a long time afterwards because you've really pushed it to the wall.

Try doing this kind of cardio. If you do just this 1 trick to lose belly fat, you will see and feel the results.

Weight Loss Tips - Never Skip Breakfast To Lose Weight!

A weight loss regimen does not have to be the ordeal that it is made out to be. The process of reducing unwanted body fat can turn out to be a positively encouraging endeavor that helps you continue on the path to greater vitality and health.

Many people in the hope of achieving fast weight loss, resort to extreme measures, such as skipping breakfast. It is totally a wrong notion that not eating breakfast can make you thinner sooner.

The first meal of the day is very important as it sets the tone for the rest of the day. The next meal, in terms of importance, is lunch. Studies have shown that people, who on a daily basis, consume at least half of their total daily calories in the first two meals, stay slimmer and trimmer.

Skipping breakfast triggers off the "starvation response," and slows down the metabolism. This also may be a contributing factor to calories being stored as fat, which is what you are trying to avoid in the first place.

Eating early is the key to good health. This keeps the energy levels up throughout the rest of the day, but try not to eat three hours before bedtime, as these calories are mostly stored as fat. Another disadvantage of eating very late in the day is the difficulty in waking up in the morning.

Achieving weight loss, even quick weight loss, is possible while eating all the meals. You only need to do it the right way.

Anti-Aging Exercise - How to Increase Growth Hormone

Growth hormone is the biggest anti-aging hormone. You can increase growth hormone with the right strength training program. Surprisingly, cardio exercise doesn't do much for growth hormone levels. And by boosting your growth hormone, you can burn fat and lose fat.

Every day, I receive spam emails from marketers trying to sell me "human Growth Hormone" boosters to help prevent aging. But did you know there's a natural way to increase your levels of Growth Hormone?

It's called strength training.

In a new study from the European Journal of Applied Physiology, human performance researchers from the University of North Carolina compared the Growth Hormone response of aerobic exercise and strength training.

When compared to a 30-minute aerobic training session, a strength training workout resulted in significantly more Growth Hormone release.

So if you are looking for a way to fight aging naturally, and boost fat burning while you are at it, don't neglect strength training as part of your exercise program.

The best exercises to use are multi-muscle exercises such as squats. You can do these with your bodyweight only, or if you have a dumbell set at home, you can do these while holding dumbells in each hand.

Do 3 sets of 8 repetitions two to three times per week. Add a pushing exercise, such as pushups or dumbell chest presses, and you have a fast, total body workout that builds muscle, burns fat, and boosts growth hormone.

Follow that up with interval training and you have the best recipe for boosting growth hormone, fat burning, and anti-aging exercise.

Personal Trainer: No Experience Necessary

I have read many articles like " Before you hire a personal trainer read this " then the article goes on to give you different things to look for, and the #1 is certification, well what everyone should know, is that anyone who can read a book and retain information can become a certified personal trainer.

If you are fat you can become a trainer, if you smoke you can become a trainer, if you are a boozer you can become a trainer.

So even though the a person has no previous experience- they can take an online test and become certified to train you, what I want to know is this who you want training you?

Most people will become the trainers "test subjects" they have no real life experience, they have no idea how to get someone into shape, so does it make more sense to have some one certified or experienced training you ?

Go into almost any gym and you will see some bad trainers, also good trainers, but the bad trainers out number the good trainers.

Personal trainers who don't live what they teach should be ashamed of themselves if they can't take control of their own life, how can they motivate you to better life.

If these trainers want to change peoples lives they should live this way too.

I personally seen people get certified that were fat, even seen one guy who could not even balance himself on one foot, yet they were certified as personal trainers- CRAZY.

Basically what I'm saying is certification isn't always the answer, experience can go along way, if you find the right person.

Mind Over Weight Loss

A very famous author indeed, whose name I really should remember, once said that he attributed his great literary success to the fact that he only ever wrote when he was in the mood and yet he had been so prolific and acclaimed. What a lucky man; such great talent, so effortless. Asked how he achieved the right mind set for writing, he replied "every morning at 9am I make sure I'm in the mood". Hard work and discipline did it for him. It seems the harder he worked, the luckier he got.

Now the obvious lesson if you want to learn it is that if you really want to lose weight, you have to get yourself motivated to do it, whether you feel like it or not.

Success is a pinch of desire mixed with a double handful of determination and persistence. Motivation is not a tap that you can just turn on. It's a bit more like a rusty old well pump that needs a lot of attention to get it functioning. To help you get the motivation flowing, work out the answer these 2 simple questions. Write your answers down. Leave them where you can see them. Often.

1. Why do you want to lose weight? Dig deep till you find the real reason, not what you've been told to believe. The motivation for your weight loss has to be dear to your heart and vitally important for you - even if it seems a silly girly reason like not wanting your high school friends from 20 years ago to freak when your unexpectedly massive frame bears down on them at the reunion.

If you don't have a rock solid personal reason to lose weight, you are not going to do it. You have to put weight loss as one of the very top priorities in your life. You can't do that if you don't sincerely believe in its importance to you. So identify your reason and acknowledge it, grab a pen and get writing: "I want to lose weight because..."

2. How are you going to go about losing weight? Do you have the determination to go for broke with a low carb or meal replacement option or is that too much too soon? Are you going to join a "boot camp" type of fitness class or take regular brisk walks on your own?

Remember whether you opt for fast or slow weight loss, sooner or later you have to take up the weight control diet and regular exercise program that is going to keep your weight low and steady for the rest of your life.

Plan ahead with your short, medium and long term goals. The more detailed your plan, the better your chance of long term success. So, I'd be writing something like: "My plan to lose weight is to eat....my exercise routine will be..."

Once you have identified your reason to lose weight and worked out a plan, don't hesitate. Get into it. Review your plan at regular intervals and be tough but fair on yourself.

Train your brain and your body will follow.

Best Weight Loss Practices

The best practices for permanent weight loss are healthy habits that you can continue for the rest of your life.

Make Exercise a Habit

One of the best things you can do for your body is to move it. A balance of cardio activities and resistance training will:

Boost your metabolism
Allow your body to burn more calories
Create a leaner look
Prevent sagging skin after weight loss
Increase your energy
Extend your life by giving you a healthier heart.

If you dont already participate in weekly cardio and weight training activities, start small and gradually add to your time and intensity.

Make Healthier Food Choices

Exercise alone cannot help you lose weight. The best practice to shed extra pounds is to combine exercise with a sensible diet.

Choosing a diet to follow can be overwhelming with so many books, programs and Web sites on the market. Fad diets often claim to have the miracle for weight loss. It is important to weed through the various weight loss plans and learn to spot a fad diet.

A sensible diet is one you can safely and sanely follow forever. A healthy diet isnt one that you follow for 48 hours or for 30 days. There is no time limit for a healthy lifestyle. Cutting food groups and following extreme calorie reduction plans dont work either.

The best eating plan for permanent weight loss is cutting back on sweets and eating foods in their natural form. Limit fast foods and processed foods and eat frequent small meals throughout the day to avoid feeling hungry or deprived.

Stay Motivated

The majority of people who start a diet quit long before they reach their goals. Special occasions and minor setbacks can easily lead to binge eating and reverting to your old eating habits.

Finding your own motivation to stay on track with your weight loss program is essential to your success. Maybe you want to be a healthy role model for your kids, you want to reduce the amount of medicine you take, or you just refuse to live being overweight any longer. Use these things to guide your daily choices.

Write out the things that motivate you to lose weight and revisit the list when you start to veer off track from your weight loss program.

Stay Hydrated

You need to stay hydrated to feel and look your best. Drink eight cups (the minimum recommendation) or more of water every day. Water will also help flush the fat from your body.

Pulling it All Together

Water, natural food, exercise and keeping your motivation up will help you stick with your diet and reach your weight loss goals. Tracking everything through a journal or online tracking program is a great way to make sure you have done your best each day and are moving closer to your goal weight.

Love Handles - Other Views!

Love handles, which are usually related to love making as the name implies and also known as spare tire is a term used for the build up of fat that usually develops around the waist. In men it is much more noticeable to the sides, whereas in women it can be more noticeable around the stomach. Men are more likely to develop love handles because it is supposed to be hereditary, fat is usually stored in the midsection of the male body, whereas in women fat is usually stored around the hips and thighs.

The best way one can get rid of these love handles, is by exercise and diet, but because love handles are often due to hereditary factors, especially in men, it is sometimes difficult to get rid of and the only other alternative for eliminating the problem is by surgery. The most common type of surgery is Liposuction. There are two types of liposuction surgery, abdominal liposuction and liposuction of the breasts. There is also liposculpture, which when performed gives the abdomen a more muscular appearance, and is quite popular with men.

Some men prefer women with love handles, because they think they are cuddly, but how long will they be cuddly, the older one becomes the more their body widens, well most of them and so although love handles may look appealing when you are around say thirty, as you get older say around forty something, it will no longer be considered cuddly and appealing, but will probably be described as fat or middle age paunch, some might even call it a beer belly.

Women usually gain fat in their hips, buttocks and thighs, while men gain it in their abdomen, the reason for this difference between men and women are still not known. Love handles are somewhat unappealing to look at, is not dangerous to your health and in fact some say that it is actually good for your health. Also people with love handles tend to keep warmer in the winter because of the amount of body fat, which is also true for people who are naturally fat, they do not necessarily have to have love handles to be fat.

Ways to Lose Stomach Fat By Eating More - Part 1

Want the best ways to lose stomach fat - Eat more!

Diet and proper nutrition plays an important role in fat loss.

And the cornerstone of any fat loss is a good metabolism.

It is the key ingredient to reducing stomach fat.

But how do you adjust your diet to make sure the foods you eat are as metabolism friendly as possible?

Here are 3 ways to lose stomach fat-

1) Eat healthy to lose stomach fat

A healthy diet needs to be well rounded with the proper amount of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. As well, We need fiber, protein, and good source of fat.

2) Food is Not the Enemy

Not only do we need a balanced diet, a proper meal plan is also required. Instead of eating three meals throughout the day, eat several little meals, say times a day.

You don't have to reduce the number of calories you eat, but just reduce the portions of your meals in half and space them out throughout the day.

Or simply sticking to the policy of only 1 plate portions is a good start.

The benefit of doing this is, it keeps your blood sugar up, which gives you more energy. Initially, this might be difficult for some people, but after a while it will feel natural.

3) If you want a fast metabolism, avoid the 'stuffing' yourself to the point of a belly discomfort. We've all been guilty of over indulging ourselves, especially over Christmas, thanksgiving, and the buffet meals.

Over-eating does not allow your metabolism to handle efficiently, and a lot of it will be stored as fat.

You will gain weight, have less energy, and just make it more difficult to lose the weight.

Last November, I traveled to Mesa, Arizona, to hear Bill Phillips speak at a seminar. But at the end of the conference, it wasn't Phillips who I remembered hearing, nor was it Richard Branson, who spoke to us via satellite...but it was a man named Dave Kekich.

Mr. Kekich has written something called, "The Kekich Credo's", a set of 100 success secrets, and I review one secret everyday.

In fact, each morning I have a routine. After walking the dog, eating breakfast, and completing one major task for the day, I then review one of the 100 Kekich Credo's and relate it to my business and to your fat loss goals.

Yesterday, after a 2-hour walk with the dog in the Toronto Beaches (yes, we have beaches in Canada!), it was...

Kekich Credo #4...

"Real regrets only come from not doing your best. All else is out of your control. You're measured by results only. Trade excuses and "trying" for results, and expect half-hearted results from half-hearted efforts. Do more than is expected of you. Life's easy when you live it the hard way...and hard if you try to live it the easy way."

**** And here's my interpretation of how this success secret applies to your fat loss program...

-> Who are the ones on the cardio confessional every Monday? The people who did not do their best on the weekend with their diet.

-> Most people fail to control themselves, and end up only with regrets. They trade minutes of pleasure (i.e. fast food) for days, weeks, months, and years of regret. Do not be like everyone else!

-> Focus on quality workouts, not quantity. Focus on planning ahead to overcome obstacles, rather than trying to "out-cardio" your bad diet. You'll never succeed that way.

-> Always hit a personal best in each workout. This guarantees progress for both fat burning and muscle building.

-> Fat loss is easy once you understand how hard it is...and it's hard if you think it is easy.

That's the Truth About Fat Loss.

If you accept that in order to lose fat, you must...

1) Plan and prepare your nutrition in advance. That means spending some time on the weekend, planning what you need, going to the grocery store, and coming back home and preparing that food into meals for the rest of the week.

Cook a lot of chicken at once. Cut up all of your vegetables. Wash all your fruit. Package up your nuts in snack sized containers.

Take the "boy scout" approach to your nutrition and always be prepared.

2) Follow a professionally designed, structured workout routine that is more intense than anything you'd put together for yourself

3) Get social support from others who have gone through the same trials and tribulations that you face

...then you will succeed.

Caveman Nutrition: How Can We Eat Like This?

John Williams, Ph.D., has degrees in archaeology and anthropology. His research and fieldwork has focused on the Paleolithic and Neolithic of the Old World, which basically means the Stone Age of Europe, Africa and Asia. John has always had an interest in nutrition, which actually works quite well within prehistoric studies, because our past was one big food quest.

CB: Tell us more about your approach to nutrition, and more importantly, developing delicious healthy eating recipes.

JW: You might ask, how in the world did an archaeologist get into creating healthy recipes? Ive never been a stranger to the kitchen. My Mom never really enjoyed cooking, so she encouraged me to cook for myself from a very early age. In fact, in grade school, I would wake up at 6 AM so I could make an omelet for myself before school. OK, so maybe I was a strange kid, but I certainly learned to find my way around a kitchen.

Cooking skills have also come in very handy on excavations, where there are crews of 10-20 people needing nourishment from long days of heavy labor in the sun. We usually have chefs, but Im always poking my nose around the kitchen, giving them recipes to make sure we have sufficient protein and a good fatty-acid profile.

My travels have also taught me a lot about international cuisine. I had an Indian roommate in Israel when I was doing my dissertation research, and he taught me a lot about Indian food, which I think is some of the best in the world. Ive also been to various places around the Middle East and Europe, where I picked up quite a few cooking tips.

Over the past few years, Ive been continually experimenting with making healthy recipes that taste great. Bodybuilders are some of the most knowledgeable people out there when it comes to nutrition, yet many of them will resort to eating tuna from a can and boiling chicken breasts. Not that theres anything wrong with an occasional quick snack, but there are certainly ways to make healthy meals both quick and delicious.

CB: What is your take on eating dairy? Are there any problems with consuming large amounts of dairy products?

JW: My fridge is full of cottage cheese and yogurt. But Im not a big fan of milk, as Ive found that it makes me stuffy, for lack of a better word. If you want to know the gory details, I get some mucus buildup after drinking milk, which leads me to suspect I have a low-grade allergy to it. Its the same feeling Ive had after eating takeout Chinese food loaded with MSG not good. Interestingly, I can eat cottage cheese and yogurt all day without the stuffiness.

Theres also the whole issue of dairy and insulin response. A few studies have shown that dairy products cause a disproportionately large insulin response, which some people believe could prevent fat breakdown.

But of course milk and dairy are an excellent source of casein, which is one of the best sources of protein out there. So in the end, its entirely up to the individual. Personally, I wont be making all that many recipes with milk in them, because of the potential side effects.

CB: What is your take on the low-carbohydrate approach to fat loss? Do you have any low-carbohydrate case studies you would like to share? What are your top sources of carbohydrate that you recommend people eat?

JW: Extremely low carb approaches like Atkins, and even all liquid protein and EFA diets like the Velocity Diet certainly can be effective in losing fat fast. But like I said earlier, a more balanced diet is certainly better in the long run. I think that avoiding foods like spinach or broccoli because of their few carbs would be a travesty.

CB: What are your top sources of protein?

JW: I usually grill about 3 pounds of chicken breasts at a time for quick meals during the day, and cook a proper breakfast and dinner with eggs, lean beef, fish, and the occasional game meat (bison, venison, etc.)

CB: What are your top sources of fat?

JW: Each morning I have a strong cup of Joe and a teaspoon of fish oil to clear the mental cobwebs with a caffeine-DHA combo. Not mixed together of course I wouldnt want to ruin the taste of my Ethiopian Harrar! Then throughout the day, Ill have a couple of omega-3 eggs (Pilgrims Pride EggsPlus), some olive oil in various meals, and various nuts particularly almonds and walnuts. I also take a couple of fish oil caps with every meal. This tends to balance everything out, providing a moderate amount of saturated fat, sufficient monounsaturated, and about a 2:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3s.

CB: Can you tell us the role of food in controlling "inflammation" (i.e. controlling arthritis)? What foods should be avoided? What foods should be consumed?

JW: One of the easiest ways to combat inflammation is by drinking sufficient water. Particularly if you drink coffee or any caffeinated beverage, water is a must. The commonly accepted amount for active people is about a gallon a day.

Another major pro-inflammatory aspect of our diets is a high omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. If our cell membranes are full of omega-6s, then muscle soreness and damage will be much worse after weight training. But get those fats balanced (more omega-3s), and inflammation/soreness can be reduced, leading to reduced recovery time.

Weight Loss - The Food Additive Connection?

This year will be different. You have decided that weight loss can and will happen this time. You are following the eating instructions right to the tee. But, do you ever feel it's an uphill battle?

Well, you're probably right. The food you eat can and will affect the success you experience. And I don't just mean carbs.

Would you be surprised to learn that food additives actually contribute to not only weight gain, but to how you look and feel.

Well...It's true, Let's take a look at just some of the 2000 plus approved food additives. Hydrogenated vegetable oils and trans fats have been making news lately. Manufacturers are promoting 0 trans fat for some of their products. But, is this good enough?

Man created these oils. They are not beneficial to you. They raise your bad cholesterol. Hydrogenated oils don't have the essential fatty acids your body needs for all body functions. Not only don't you get nutrients from them, they actually block your absorption of nutrients. Your body needs the nutrients in fat. So, what is the body's response?

Eat. That's right. These fake oils make you keep eating because the body is hungry for the nutrients.

Try this...Remove hydrogenated vegetable oils from your diet and see how you feel and respond. If you want chips, go for organic. This is because removing trans fat is still leaving hydrogenated oil.

Moving on...We have monosodium glutamate or msg. Called a flavor enhancer. This chemical can cause an addictive effect making you crave foods that contain it. Other adverse effects complained of are headaches, migraines, flushing, pain and nausea. The FDA requires that this ingredient be identified on the label.

And to top off it's effects...Scientists use msg to make lab rats fat so they can study obesity and obesity products. You see, these creatures aren't naturally fat.

Next there's aspartame. This has become the sweetener of choice for many people watching their weight. This chemical additive is responsible for 92 various complaints to the FDA. Among them is slow steady weight gain. For a more detailed look at aspartame go to mom-going-organic-sensibly.com.

Another culprit to weight gain is high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Not to be confused with the pure corn syrup you find on store shelves. No, HFCS is man made. The food industry's answer to the high sugar prices in the 1970's. Since then, it has made its way into most everything. Even pasta sauce. Would you even think of sweetening your pasta sauce? I wouldn't. This additive will cause weight gain and cravings. Kind of sheds some light on society's weight problem, don't you think?

So, what are you to do...First, continue with your diet changes. You are on the right track and the next actions will give you a boost.

Second, eliminate foods with hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, msg, and aspartame.

Next, reduce processed foods in your diet by increasing fresh fruits and vegetables.

You may choose to use organic products instead of conventional processed foods. This is a good move. However, processed organic foods are still processed. Your body will thrive on wholesome foods. And your rewards last a lifetime.

Basics of The Grapefruit Diet

The grapefruit diet was a very popular diet in the 1980s. In fact, the origin of this diet can be dated back from 1930. Most experts said that this diet is not an effective one since it will be quite impossible to lose weight with the large consumption of grapefruit. Yet there are some new discoveries about this diet and we may need to think of it again in a new way.

If you take this dieting planning, you will need to eat grapefruit whenever you can. You will also need to drink some grapefruit juice when you are having your meal. Of course the grapefruit juice has to be unsweetened. If you drink cocktails, you should add grapefruit to it. You will even need to add grapefruit to the salads you eat! In fact, the basic idea behind such diet is that grapefruit is fat-free. Besides, it has only few calories. As a result, when you eat more grapefruit, you will probably feel fuller and at the same time you will not be able to take a lot of calories. And you will lose weight since the calorie intake is so small.

According to a recent study, grapefruit diet can help to lose weight. The finding from this study is in fact opposite to the belief of the experts in the 1980s.

When you are on diet, you may need to change your habit of eating. For example, you will need to take fewer carbs if you are taking the Atkins diet. However, this is not the case of grapefruit diet. You do not need to alter your habit of eating. Of course you will still need to do some exercises in order to make the diet even more effective.

According to the study mentioned above, in twelve weeks, one can lose 3.6 pounds if one takes the grapefruit diet and do some exercise everyday. Yet one does not need to alter his / her eating habit in order to lose these 3.6 pounds. The study also reveal that it is also effective if you can drink a glass of grapefruit juice afore every meal. The reduction in weight will be 3.3 pounds in the case. Of course it is also in a period of twelve weeks. Although the pace of losing weight is considered slow, the diet still has its advantage over other dieting plans since you will probably find it a lot easier to stick to this diet.

Solving Your Back Pain with Proper Exercise Form

You can't bend over. You can't play with your kids or grandkids. You can't play golf. You can't even do your regular routine around the house. The long commute to work is killing you. You sit at your desk in gnawing pain for long periods of time and get nothing done because of it.

You've got back pain. And you need to get rid of it.

Let's show you how...

First and foremost, you need to see an expert to determine the cause and solution of your back pain. This is not something to be ignored. Ask around the gym or the office for a referral to a good soft-tissue therapist (this could be a physio or a chiropractor). Then see your doctor and get help as soon as possible.

Second, you need to find the cause of your pain and eliminate it. If you have a bad bed, a poor office workstation setup, or a bad exercise program - you must remove the offending activity that is crippling you with back pain.

Fortunately, there are many ways to help reduce your back pain in the gym. On the other hand, there are many ways that you might make the back pain worse.

Here's the one thing you should never do in the gym if you have back pain: You should never round your back. So that means no situps, no crunches, no picking up weights off the floor with a rounded back, and no rowing exercises performed with a rounded back. Be diligent with your form in all squats, rows, deadlifts, etc. If in doubt, skip the exercise.

Now picking up weights off the floor - that's where you see some of the ugliest form in the gym. So don't think that because it's "not really part of your exercise" that you can use poor posture when you are moving weights around the gym. Follow these rules when lifting for proper form.

Here's what you must do:

- Increase your abdominal endurance with exercises like the plank and side plank

- Brace your abdominals (clench them tight) in every exercise

- Keep your low back in a proper alignment by keeping a slight arch in the low back in all exercises

Follow these rules and you'll be able to exercise safely. The right strength program comes with torso training workouts that will help you build muscle endurance and reduce your risk of back pain. Being overweight is another cause of back pain (and knee pain too). So you need to get on a fat loss program that works and takes care of your back at the same time.

Weight Loss Tips - Do Not Count Calories For Quick Weight Loss

What comes to mind is "calories," when talking about weight gain or weight loss. How many people really understand what calories are?

A calorie is a unit of energy which is provided by oxidation of food - a process consisting of the chemical reaction of carbon and hydrogen with oxygen to yield water and carbon dioxide. This oxidation supplies the body energy for warmth, movement and for other chemical reactions.

Usually most diet books tell us that calories consumed must equal the calories burned, otherwise a person tends to put on weight. A pound of body fat is about 3500 calories stored and supposedly, eating about 100 extra calories per day will cause weight gain of about one pound in a month. They also say that reversing this process will take off the added weight.

How easy and wonderful it would be, if only calorie reduction makes us fit and healthy. There would not be any fat people in this world.

The reason this is a false notion and the reason why there are so many people fighting weight loss in spite of admirable efforts, is because it all depends on individual metabolism. It is not just what is eaten, but the specific physiological attributes of the person eating the food that matters.

Reducing caloric intake may work wonderfully for a person who has gained weight due to laziness, inactivity or even excess food consumption. This may be the case with women during pregnancy and who need a little help losing weight afterwards.

What happens to those people that are genetically disposed to weight gain or even for those that have kept the weight for so long that they have experienced metabolic changes? For such people, counting calories is a futile effort.

Energy requirements for each individual, even if they are of the same sex, age and body composition may vary by almost 100%.

You must understand that the body constantly modifies its own energy expenditures in various ways depending on the changing supply of calories. This shows that counting calories may yield no results.

Fastest Weight Loss Method

Would you believe me if I said the fastest weight loss method available actually involves eating more food? Of course you wouldn't, but amazingly this isn't a joke or a scam. So what is this diet that sounds too good to be true.

The diet in question is called calorie shifting and yes it really does work by eating more. Calorie shifting works by increasing your metabolism to work at a higher rate which brings on faster weight loss.

It does this by mixing up the foods you eat and the calories you in take each day. This stops the body from figuring out any sort of routine and sensing you are on a diet. Thanks to the confusion it causes your body will actually burn calories faster.

You eat 4 meals a day on the program and the only thing you really need to make sure of is that each of the meals consist of different calorie amounts and you will soon see results. A menu generator can also be attained for those that want an extra level of help with an eating plan.

By eating 4 meals a day or more if you like you will keep the metabolism working constantly throughout the day meaning calories are being burned all day. This is why eating more really can help you to lose weight.

Calorie shifting diet users tend to report losses of between 8 to 15 pounds in the first 2 week and since the diet works on a continuous cycle the results will keep coming for as long as you use the diet.

You can get more information about the calorie shifting diet if you visit here.

A Holistic Approach to Weight loss & Fitness

World Health Organization has observed that obesity has now reached epidemic proportions globally. More number of people are dying due to obesity and resultant disease. Weight loss and fitness is not just an issue of shedding a few pounds and pumping up the muscles temporarily and losing it all the moment we stop whatever program we are in. It is a total lifestyle change involving the body, mind and spirit.

The systemic approach of the modern science has spawned the huge sickness industry which while bringing relief from much complex disease does not address the fundamentals of wellness which is prevention. The progress of medical science does bring relief from pain and to some extent healing which is however a natural mechanism of the body aided by medicine. Given sufficient time and proper nourishment the body is able to address the problem and heal by itself.

The basis of all ayurvedic and natural therapies of ancient times were based on the simple principle of assisting and providing the body with natural and organic nutrients to stimulate the biological mechanism towards total healing instead of just addressing the symptoms. The role of various herbs especially herbs like Ganoderma rich in anti oxidants and over 200 components with healing properties cannot be over emphasized. The ancient system is an integrated system to create wholeness in body, mind and spirit. One without addressing the other aspects could only address part of the problem. This is true of the modern medical system which addresses the physiology and not the mind and the spirit. A complete human being is an amalgam of all three and not just a physical mass.

Recent research has conclusively established the role of mind and the spirit in all healing process. The science of Yoga and Meditation now plays a crucial role in all therapies which involves creating wellness as opposed to treating sickness.

All who are interested in weight loss, fitness, anti ageing and general good health must address the following questions:

What are my health goals? Is it treating sickness or working towards wellness?

Do I require all these unhealthy fast foods and snacks which give immediate gratification but long term pain?

Am I in rhythm with nature which is doing simple things like early to bed and early to rise, less automation and more physical work and activities, relaxing when the body sends out signals of stress and tiredness, maintaining cleanliness and avoiding all modern mores which prevents the body from recouping and rebuilding?

Do we want our children to be brought up as couch potatoes leading moronic and violent lives and growing into mentally and physically unhealthy adults creating an unbalanced society?

If the answer to all these questions is a big NO then we must begin the process now or it would be too late for all of us and the global society which is mindlessly adding up junk in every aspect in the name of growth and progress.

We must begin a process of a total lifestyle change which is natural, holistic and healthy.
