Weight Loss And Starvation

If you've ever tried to lose weight by starving yourself then you already know that not only does this not work, but it actually backfires, and usually makes you GAIN weight. When you try to go for extended periods of time without eating (more than four or five hours) you're basically working against your body.

Not Smart.

See, eating is natural. It's instinctive. We are hard wired as human beings to eat. So what normally happens when someone tries to starve themselves is they eventually end up succumbing to their natural instincts, and instead of eating...

They binge eat!

Now here's where it gets even worse: When this happens someone might believe that they "failed" and they need to develop more "discipline" or "will power."

They start believing that the problem is a lot worse than it actually is. Now, as I discuss in the book Living Life Lean, there is tremendous power in discipline, yet it definitely doesn't serve you when you try to use it to starve yourself!

Another reason why this misconception is so destructive is because it damages your metabolism, which is critical to burning fat and living lean. I would think that by now this debunked "strategy" would be extinct.

But it's not.

I see so many people who believe they will be different. In their mind they think it will actually work for them, and THEN once they reach their desired outcome they'll stop.

Is this, or will this ever be a solution to living life lean?

Not a chance.

So what is the solution? You take the exact OPPOSITE approach and begin to eat more often. Ironically, once you begin to eat more frequently you'll think about food less and it's actually a much easier way to become lean.

All the while, you're keeping your body in a constant state of thermogenisis (your internal body temperature is raised) and your metabolism is running on all cylinders and burning fat at an optimum rate.

Fast Weight Loss Plan

Want a fast weight loss plan? It's easy to say goodbye quickly to 10 or 12 pounds of fat with these diet tips. Simply follow these tips and learn how to lose weight effectively.

The basics ..... eat plenty of good tasting, fresh, and healthy foods, fill up on vegetables, and keep your taste buds happy by eating lots of fruit. You should eat 3 small meals along with 3 small snacks each day.

No need to sacrifice! Just follow these simple guidelines to lose 10 or 12 pounds, or to give your weight loss efforts a boost when it seems to have screeched to a halt. Implement this balanced and flexible plan which shows you how to lose weight effectively.

<1>

Keep notes about everything you put into your mouth. No need to estimate calories. Just keep a record of what you eat and drink along with the approximate quantity. You will find that becoming aware of what you are eating helps you to plan healthy meals and snacks.

<2>

Cut your intake of all pure or added fats in half. Use half as much butter or spread on your bread, toast, muffins and potatoes; use half of your usual amount of mayonnaise or sauce on your salad; and use only half of the oil you normally put into the frying pan.

<3>

Eat treats containing sugar only three times per week. This includes the usual suspects: chocolate, ice cream, desserts, cake, pastries, and cookies.

<4>

Most meals should include a lower fat source of protein such as fish, chicken, cottage cheese, low fat yogurt, or beans. You can eat nuts, red meat, and eggs ..... just not every day.

<5>

Cheese and meat should be absent from at least one lunch and dinner every week. In order to increase fiber and reduce fat, those meals without cheese and meat can be built around whole grains, vegetables and beans.

<6>

Consume milk products containing reduced fat. Reduce from whole milk to 2% fat. Over time, reduce from 2% to 1%. Consume lower fat cheese and yogurt. Always read the labels to confirm that the yogurt you purchase does not contain sugar.

<7>

Eat a minimum of two servings of fruit every day as dessert or for snacks. Choose fruit that is in season.

<8>

Substitute water for sodas, juices, milk or alcohol. Do not drink diet soda because the sweet taste makes you crave sugar. Many people find that hot water with a slice of lemon can be very refreshing in the morning.

<9>

Include at least two servings of vegetables during lunch and dinner. You can have more servings of vegetables if you are still hungry.

<10>

Eat slowly in order to give your body time to understand that it is no longer hungry. This will reduce your tendency to eat too much.

<11>

Grated carrots are great for snacks and are much more filling than whole carrots.

<12>

The fiber in whole grains gives you a fuller feeling and will also help your digestion.

<13>

You can increase your fiber intake by choosing foods that need to be chewed. Chewing helps us to feel more satisfied. For example, eat some fruit instead of drinking juice. And always try to eat chunky soup instead of broth.

<14>

Plan your meals and snacks in advance. Plan your shopping in advance, too. Make your list and stick to it. Don't take the chance of loading up on high-calorie food when shopping while you are hungry.

<15>

Studies consistently prove that we eat more food while watching TV than we do when the TV is turned off. So, when you eat meals or snacks, leave the TV turned off.

If You Wanna Lose Weight Fast Read This

Being overweight I have tried many, many things to lose weight including Nutritional System, Weight Watchers and just plain starvation. I tried all of these and more hoping to lose weight and have the body and energy I wanted. My weight loss journey has been many years in the making 10 years at least. After trying all of these things I found that none of theses things worked for me. I lost some weight, but never felt good or had energy to take care of my son or enjoy activities. I always felt hungry, never full or satisfied with the foods that I was eating on the things that I was trying. The most devastating thing using these weight loss strategies was the weight always seemed to come back along with extra 5-10 pounds of weight. I made a decision to educate myself on food, food labels, and what good food choices were. I made another conscious decision to commit to cardiovascular exercise and weight resistant training that finally I started having energy and feeling satisfied in my food choices. Fit Yummy Mummy showed me how to keep the weight off. "

"Performing the Fit Yummy Mummy workouts has been one of the best things I could have done for myself. After my workouts, I feel rewarded and full of energy. I know I am doing good for my body, but it also help me release stress and feel good about ME!"

I know how difficult it is to find real, expert advice on fitness and fat loss workout exercises these days. It's not your fault. With all the conflicting information you hear on TV and the outdated advice printed in magazines, it's no wonder so many Moms are bored with their workouts and frustrated with their lack of results, but this change it all.

10 Step Plan for Screwing Up Your Weight Loss

I'm constantly hearing from readers who complain that if they take even a bite of cake, they're afraid there going to destroy their diet. News flash: Treating yourself to some cake or even eating a piece of chocolate is not going to destroy your diet.

But that got me to thinking. How could you really screw up your weight loss program? No, it's not something you would want to do, but if you had a list -- and oh how we love our lists-- on how to truly screw it up, maybe a little reverse psychology would take place.

So with that thought in mind, here's my sure-fire 10 step plan for screwing up any weight loss program. Follow this, and you'll be large and in charge in no time flat.

  • 1. Drink sodas, aka liquid candy. Drink a couple of these a day and watch your love handles grow like crazy.
  • 2. Frequent fast food spots. The word fast won't only be applied to food once you see how quickly your waist grows.
  • 3. Treat potato chips like vegetables. Eating 5 serving of veggies will never be so easy.
  • 4. Eat a big meal before you go to bed. Aside from nightmares, the food will quickly find a resting spot right in your tummy.
  • 5. Avoid drinking water. Great technique for retaining waste in your body and yes, that's exactly what I mean.
  • 6. Stuff yourself until you can't move. Need I say more?
  • 7. Super size every chance you get. Why settle for 8 ounces when 32 will do.
  • 8. Avoid exercise like the plague. Can't you just feel your metabolism slowing down?
  • 9. Eat fried foods. No only will you gain fat quickly, it is by far the best strategy for clogging your arteries.
  • 10. Never eat fruits and vegetables. They are just taking up space from all the ice cream you could be eating anyway.

There you go. Now that's how to really screw up your weight loss program.

Moral of the story: Lighten up. We all cheat on our diet now and then. It's what keeps us sane. Just do your body a favor and do it in moderation.

Weight Loss And Diets - Is It More Difficult To Lose Weight During The Holidays?

Is it really more difficult to lose weight during the holidays? This depends on many things, including how much weight you need to lose and what your eating habits are. Here are some things to look at to see what might be affecting your ability to stay on a weight loss diet.

  • Take a look at your social habits. If your lifestyle includes eating out many times each week or attending other types of social or community events, eating a healthy, low calorie diet may be extremely difficult for you. If this is the case, think about how you can best handle it to match your goals for losing weight. Perhaps eating something healthy before you leave your house, such as an apple or some whole grain crackers, will keep you from eating so much when you are out at a restaurant or other social venue.
  • Keep a journal of what you eat over a three day period. See if you eat more at a specific time of day or during certain times of the year. Holiday times, whether they be during Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's or during the summer - Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day, may be times when you are more likely to overeat. Be sure to record your consumption of alcohol, as that can figure into the weight loss equation.

The most important thing is to be aware of what you eat and when you tend to eat more. You may want to find out more about weight loss programs that help you to lose weight quickly.

And now I invite you to learn more about losing weight quickly and keeping it off if you need to lose more than 30 pounds by visiting http://www.FivePoundsAtATime.com to find out about the master cleanse weight loss diet.

Say "Goodbye" to the Dreaded Weight Loss Plateau

Dieters dread the plateau. You're on a roll, losing weight steadily and happily for weeks. Your confidence is high and your goal is in sight. Then suddenly your scale freezes. No matter how hard you try, those extra pounds just refuse to budge. You've hit a wall and you know the frustration of seeing no progress could easily lead you to gain back what you've lost. So how do you break through the plateau?

It's perfectly normal for a dieter to reach a plateau. The trick is to use it as an opportunity to double up your efforts and get really clear on your strategy to carry you through to the finish line. Below you'll find suggestions that can help you recommit to your program and re-ignite the weight-loss process when you feel challenged.

1. Get clear on your ultimate weight-loss goal.

Be sure that your weight-loss goal is realistic and that your expected rate of weight loss is reasonable. If you are on a heath enhancing, nutritionally rich weight loss program you can expect to loss one to two pounds a week. Each body has its own ideal weight and size. Don't compare yourself to anyone else, but listen to your body and notice what feels best for you. A simple way to approximate your ideal weight is by referring to a Body Mass Index chart.

2. Go high-protein, low carbs.

Unless you are eating enough protein to maintain your lean muscle mass, you are likely to have lost weight already from both your fat stores and muscle. Women need to eat approximately 100grams of protein a day and men 150 grams in order to preserve their muscle tissue during a weight loss program. If you have lost some muscle during your weight loss program so far you will need to focus on protein so your body can build muscle, which requires more calories to sustain, which will in turn, kick start your weight loss again. Needless to say, any weight loss program you choose should be one that preserves your body's muscle and this does not happen!

3. Add resistance training to your program.

A wonderful way to boost your metabolism and break through to the next level of weight loss is by incorporating aerobic exercise into your program, such as 30 minutes of walking three to four times a week. (If you are 35 years or older, or haven't exercised regularly, begin with 10 to 15 minutes two to three times a week.) In addition, weight training with free weights or machines several times a week can help increase muscle mass, which in turn allows you to burn more calories faster. Studies show that weight training can increase your metabolism overnight by five to 10 percent. Working out can increase your metabolism for up to 21 hours after an intense workout.

4. Look out for hidden carbohydrates.

If your weight loss progress seems slow, look out for carbohydrates that might be sneaking their way unnoticed into your diet. Sugar can lurk in the most unexpected places such as ketchup, salad dressings, teriyaki and barbecue sauces. Watch out too for cornstarch, sugar or milk solids in many processed foods such as gravies, or sauces on frozen vegetables. Be especially careful about "low-fat" foods where flavor is enhanced by sugar and other carbohydrates. Try keeping a diet journal for a couple of days of EVERYTHING you eat and drink. You may quickly discover the hidden carbs that are keeping your weight-loss progress stuck and be able to eliminate them and move past your plateau.

5. Take the "refinement" out of your diet.

Try eliminating all refined sugar and refined grains from your diet. This includes white bread, pastries, pasta, white rice, white flour crackers, sugar-coated breakfast cereals, cookies and cake. This simple step can encourage a huge weight-loss breakthrough and leave you feeling more healthy and energized in the process.

6. Don't go hungry.

Cutting back on how often you eat can have a negative impact on your diet plateau. Many studies show that small, frequent meals are more satisfying and produce better weight-loss results than the same number of calories consumed in three large meals. Take advantage of healthy snacking and crunch on fresh slices of raw vegetables like celery, peppers, cucumber and jicama when you're hungry.

7. Drink to burn up.

It's vitally important to replenish your fluids by drinking plenty of water on your weight loss program. An inadequate supply of water in itself can slow down your weight-loss. Carry water with you wherever you go throughout the day. For additional weight-management benefits, add a high quality aloe concentrate to your water to help keep your digestion in top shape. Also, a probiotic supplement can help us maintain a healthy intestinal flora. Keeping well hydrated not only helps you burn fat efficiently, it also helps control hunger.

8. Keep your incentive strong.

Remember the determination you felt when you first began your weight-loss program? Remember the excitement of watching the pounds drop one by one? Go back to whatever your initial motivation was and see whether it still works for you. It may have been the desire to lose weight for a particular event or to regain your figure after pregnancy. You may have been motivated by poor health or by the shock of just how much weight you had gained. See whether the same motivation still has juice for you. If not, choose a new one. Keep a picture of yourself looking great (or bad!) on your refrigerator as a daily reminder of where you are heading.

Hoodithin - Weight Loss Made Easy?

For those of us who are struggling with unwanted pounds and have to resort to dieting, the challenges of staying with the diet or weight loss plan are apparent. Hunger pangs, cravings for comfort food, and finding yourself constantly thinking about just a 'tiny bit of real food' and eventually being unable to stick to the chosen plan of action - is an all too familiar outcome.

Well, there is no need for despair! Hoodithin, an all natural herbal weight loss supplement, available on the market today, helps to overcome those unpleasant feelings, associated with being on a restricted diet. Hoodithin is a liquid extract of Hoodia Gordonii, an African cactus plant, that was extensively researched and proved to be an effective appetite suppressant. It tricks the brain into thinking that your stomach is full, thus preventing hunger bouts and cravings. The supplement has no known side effects and considered to be completely safe to use within suggested dose.

One may wonder how long it takes to see weight loss results when using the hoodia supplement. As per manufacturers of Hoodithin, it could vary from person to person, as well as frequency and amount taken. On average, you should see the difference within 2 weeks of consistent use.

There are many Hoodia products advertised and sold on the market. One should keep in mind, though, that the liquid extract of Hoodia plant is considerably more potent and fully absorbed, compared to the pill, providing faster and more efficient way to fight off hunger and unpleasant feeling of food deprivation. Another advantage being that liquid ingredients require no fillers, binders or other added ingredients - capsules/tablets often contain other ingredients and the percentage of actual pure Hoodia can be quite small. Hoodithin, the 100% pure hi-potency liquid extract of Hoodia is actually the only Hoodia product in history to have been featured on Oprah, MSNBC, CBS, 60 Minutes and the BBC.

Weight Loss Motivation - Weight Loss Is All In The Mind!

Ever wondered why people fail at weight loss? Why people fall off the wagon as they say? Its not because they seriously can't do it or that the exercise program was to difficult its all down to one thing and that's motivation.

A major component within your body to assist in losing weight is your mind and what you are thinking. Your mind believe it or not controls your actions whether it be "saying no to that extra helping of ice cream" or "making you believe you can't achieve". This is what puts a sudden stop to most peoples weight loss plans.

Actions you carry out can change the way you think about things but most importantly have your mind thinking what you want it to think while keeping you motivated to carry on. When losing weight the biggest motivational kick is witnessing the results staring back at you in the mirror and the feeling of achievement at the way you have changed your body.

But when you stare in the mirror and don't see the results you expected staring back at you it is enough to have you throwing in the towel. So what can you do to avoid this and keep you motivated?

Setting realistic goals is a huge way of keeping you motivated. If you look at it realistically and aim to lose weight slowly and surely you will stay ahead of the game. Nobody can lose weight overnight and as soon as you set an unrealistic target that you can never achieve that is when you are most likely going to throw in that towel.

So look at your lifestyle and your fitness levels and aim for realistic targets every month and this will keep you fulfilled. Whether it be 1 pound a week or 4 pounds a week make sure it's a goal you can achieve with hard work.

Keep a diary!

Diaries are full of motivational kicks and I'm sure if you have read through success stories on the internet or in books they will make you feel excited at what you can achieve. So why not go one better and keep a diary of your success story! Keep food diaries and exercise diaries and even photographs along the way. At any time when you feel disappointed with your results refer back to your diary and what you have achieved so far and I guarantee that feeling of excitement will return at what you can really get out of your body.

Diaries are essential packed full of results and previous goals in which you have achieved while allowing you to look at what you once were and what you have grown into today.

It's a fact though that a lack of motivation in anything not just weight loss can destroy any chance of you reaching your goals. By incorporating two little techniques into your routine it not only maximises the odds of you achieving but also reminds you not to forget what you have already achieved and how far you have come.

Most importantly keeping you effectively one step ahead of your mind.

Ab belts, ab-rockers, ab-loungers, and other infomercial ab-gimmicks... they're all a complete waste of your time and money. Weight Loss Surgery Questions - Do I Really Need Surgery?

Are you considering surgery for weight loss purposes? If so, I want you to stop what you're doing and ask yourself the following question regarding bariatric weight-loss surgery:

Do I really need surgery in order to lose weight? Is it truly the only option for me?

This should be the first question you answer before pursuing any other aspect of weight loss surgery, such as finding a surgeon or lining up your finances. After all, this is surgery we are talking about here. So before you can decide if weight loss surgery is right for you, it's important to exhaust your non-surgical options for weight loss.

This is especially important if you undergo a weight loss procedure as severe as the gastric bypass. Unlike newer forms of weight loss surgery (such as gastric banding), the gastric bypass permanently alters your digestive system. That's right ... the surgeon will physically alter your stomach as well as your intestines as part of it. That's a serious form of surgery, and it comes with significant risks and potential complications. So it's important to exhaust your non-surgical options for weight loss before resorting to surgery.

"Resorting" is the opportune word here. You should only choose weight loss surgery as a last resort, and only in cases of severe obesity.

Surgery for Weight Loss and the "Quick Fix" Nation

Sometimes I look at the before-and-after photos on the websites of weight loss surgeons, and I am shocked by the types of patients who undergo this type of surgery. Many of them are merely overweight, but very few are morbidly obesity. Weight loss surgery should be reserved for patients who are morbidly obese, not for people who are merely overweight. Many of the "before" pictures show people who could have reached their target weight through regular exercise and healthy eating. But they opt for a risky surgery instead? This baffles me.

It also seems to me that many weight loss surgeons have loosened and expanded their definitions of what makes a "qualified" patient for bariatric surgery. There was a time when such surgeries were reserved for the morbidly obese -- a clinical term describing people who will literally die from their obesity, if left unchecked. But lately, it seems a lot of surgeons will operate on anyone who can afford the surgery and sign the medical waivers. This is a disturbing trend, to say the least. But I guess it's just a sign of the times and the "quick fix" mentality many people have these days.

Exhaust Your Natural Options Before Using Bariatric Surgery

Some people will make a half-hearted attempt to lose weight through proper nutrition and exercise, and then give up in frustration. Don't make this same mistake. Before turning to surgery for weight loss, you should make a serious effort to lose weight naturally (through better nutrition and exercise). It takes time and effort, but it should always be your first attempt. By addressing your nutrition and lack of exercise, you are correcting the actual source of the weight problem ... not just the symptom.

Guide To Weight Loss - Three Things To Stay Away From When Losing Weight

Here are three things that you definitely need to avoid if you want to lose weight. Many people don't even know about what I'm going to reveal right now, and that's one of the reasons why they can't lose weight - because if you eat the foods below then you will definitely put on the pounds. So here's a list of foods you should avoid...

1. "Natural Flavors" and "Spices"

Any package that says "Natural" on the front or the back generally means that the product does not contain any added "artificial" (having no counterpart in nature) additives, but it does not necessarily mean pesticides or other chemicals were not used in processing. Your potato chips that say "natural" could be genetically altered, grown with pesticides, and cleaned with unfiltered water and still read "All Natural!"

What is scary is that natural flavors and spices are assumed to be OK. But what is not OK is that any substance derived from something natural, no matter how dangerous it is, can be classified as a "natural flavoring." What's worse is that if a poisonous chemical is used to derive that flavoring, it can still be called "natural". Many natural flavors are synthesized from Isoprene, which is a known carcinogen! Isoprene stays in the food... it doesn't just disappear!

Manufacturers also hide monosodium glutamate (MSG)-a flavoring which causes headaches and allergic reactions-in their "natural flavorings" or "spices" listings because it is derived from seaweed, a natural product. So clearly, being natural is not the same as being harmless.

2. Irradiated Foods

Food irradiation is done by zapping food with a dosage of radiation. The X-rays are used to kill insects and bacteria, prevent sprouting, and slow rotting. While the process does not make the food radioactive, the chemical structure of the food is altered and there are a number of animal studies that show negative health effects. Some researchers suspect that a regular diet of irradiated food may cause leukemia, other forms of cancer, and kidney disease.

The FDA says it's safe. When you hear that, I want you to think about other things that were apparently safe... such as cigarette smoking, pesticides, asbestos and CFCs. Each of these at one time was classified as safe. The FDA claims irradiation of food is safe and has already authorized the irradiation of fruits, vegetables, pork, chicken, herbs, spices, teas, and seeds. Spices are the most widely irradiated food in the United States. You can avoid irradiation by buying 100% organic spices and foods.

NOTE: Avoid the microwave as well. This type of irradiation affects the chemistry of foods by activating the water molecules inside. If cooking does some damage to enzymes and foods, then microwaving is the equivalent to a nuclear blast, leaving everything once living lifeless and wilted.

3. Chemicals

This is the catch-all... As a general rule, anything that's longer than 15 letters, you can't pronounce and is hyphenated is generally not good for you.
